The People’s Coalition on Food Sovereignty (PCFS) on Monday, 7th of February 2011, at the Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar held a lecture on food sovereignty in Africa as part of events marking the 11th session of the World Social Forum, which is being attended by approximately 125 countries.
The aim of the lecture which was attended by students from the Cheikh Anta Diop University was to promote the people’s food sovereignty as the alternative platform against neo-liberal globalization on food and agricultural polices. It was also meant to popularize the proposals of the people’s convention on food sovereignty and disseminate the concept of food sovereignty as a guiding principle in food and agriculture, and as a unifying call for mass movements across the globe, coordinate regional and global activities on food sovereignty including mobilization, research and policy advocacy, exchange information, skills and experiences in achieving food sovereignty in the local, national, and regional levels, and to finally promote acceptance of a globally binding international convention on food sovereignty at the national and international level”.
