Root.ED RADIO

Work in Progress…but I hope you see where we are going with this…and are as excited as we are!

Root.ED RADIO EPISODE 1:  Food in Senegal with slam poet and activist Madiaw Ndiaye.

Madiaw

Direct from Dakar...brother Madiaw Ndiaye

Alright…so I caught Madiaw during an intermission at a Panafricanist Conference in Dakar, in early July, 2011.  Real chill vibe, gotta love the shirt, and we just had a reasoning about life and that let us to the harsh reality of food rights and food sovereignty in Senegal. Madiaw gives his two cents on the issues, some personal experience and of course some solutions and some hope for the future.  musical artists featured in this episode are Talib Kweli and Hi-Tek, Cheik Lo, Youssou Ndour, and a tribute to Fela Kuti at the end.  I am still trying to master making these podcasts..so bear with me..and leave constructive feedback! BLESS

Root.ED RADIO EPISODE 2: Inspiration from observation

Trying People

by: Laurenie Louissaint

Picture this, two months, 60 days of pure unforgettable and  priceless experience, a pen, and some paper. I am not too sure there is one specific way to put into words, video, or picture what we’ve seen, but our goal is to do it the best we can.  In this recording,  I recite a poem of mine called “Trying people”.  Most of the inspiration for this came from me just sitting down and thinking of all we’ve learned in Dakar and how i can personally bring some form of change. It’s quite an overwhelming thought at first, how can i possibly change anything? I than began to realize that it all starts by each one of us trying to be that element of change and collectively it will have a greater effect.

The song that inspired in part this poem is a track from the renowned rap group,  De La Soul titled “trying people” off of their 2001 album called AOI: Bionix. I am a huge hip hop fan, especially the old school stuff, so it was only right that this is what got the inspirations flowing.

Please enjoy!!
